Dr. Amy R. Poteete is an Associate Professor and Undergraduate Program Director in the Department of Political Science at Concordia University. She holds a PhD from Duke University and leads interdisciplinary research on socio-ecological systems, focusing on urban commoning, decentralization, and African political economy. Her affiliations include the Loyola Sustainability Research Centre, Next-Generation Cities Institute, and partnerships with McGill University's Institute for International Development.
Her research explores comparative politics, commons governance, and the socio-political dimensions of informal urban green spaces in Montreal and Africa. Key themes include electoral competition in Botswana/Senegal, community-based resource management, and methodological innovations in institutional analysis. Her publications consistently address how political structures mediate resource access and environmental sustainability.
Poteete's articles reflect a sustained focus on political economy of natural resources, decentralization reforms, and collective action dilemmas. Methodologically, she combines qualitative fieldwork with institutional analysis to examine governance in diverse contexts from African fisheries to Montreal's urban green spaces.
