Amy Ostrom is a Professor and Vice Dean at the W. P. Carey School of Business, Arizona State University (ASU). She holds the PetSmart Chair in Services Leadership and has been an ASU faculty member since 1996. Her academic roles include Interim Chair of the Department of Marketing and President's Professor. Ostrom is internationally recognized for her transformative service research, focusing on service well-being, technology integration, and customer co-creation. She has been honored with multiple awards, including ASU’s President’s Professor (2011–present), Arizona Professor of the Year (2004), and Huizingh Awards for teaching and service.
Educated at ASU (B.A. Psychology) and Northwestern University (Ph.D. Marketing), her research explores the intersection of services, technology, and human experience. She has published widely in top journals like the Journal of Marketing and Journal of Service Research, and serves on editorial boards for leading service journals. Ostrom’s industry experience includes over 20 custom service blueprinting workshops for sectors like healthcare, education, and technology.
Her research articles emphasize future-oriented service ecosystems, technology’s role in frontline interactions, and consumer well-being. She actively advises on service innovation and collaborates across disciplines to address societal challenges through service science. Ostrom teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in marketing, emphasizing research, strategy, and ethical service practices.
Professional accolades include the 2012 Huizingh Outstanding Undergraduate Service Award and 2007 ASU Parents Association Professor of the Year. Her work bridges academia and industry, fostering practical applications of service research to improve societal outcomes.
