Amy Miller is a Researcher at the Department of Life Sciences within the School of Health and Life Sciences at Teesside University. She holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from Teesside University and a PhD in Neuroscience from Newcastle University. Her teaching roles include leading the BSc (Hons) Animal Science and Welfare program and supervising research projects.

Her research focuses on animal welfare, pain assessment, and behavioral analysis in laboratory animals. Recent work includes developing pain scales for rabbits and studying reward preferences in mice. She is also involved in sustainability research in commercial pig farming.
Current projects include Enhancing sustainability in commercial pig farming (2023) as Principal Investigator. Her 15 most recent publications highlight expertise in pain management, analgesia, and behavioral indicators in small animals and rodents.

As an external role, she served as Senior Research Associate at Newcastle University from 2009 to 2022. She is accepting PhD students and acts as Associate Editor for BMC Veterinary Research.
