Dr. Amy McLaughlin is a Sociology Lecturer and Academic Advisor at the University of Maryland's Department of Sociology. She serves as an internship and career development specialist for undergraduate sociology majors, advising on course registration, major benchmarks, and graduation clearance while teaching courses including Women's Empowerment in Low and Middle Income Countries, Sociology of Gender, and Transition from Student to Professional.

Her research focuses on gender dynamics, caregiving practices, social norms, and socioeconomic inequality. She contributed to the Women's Empowerment: Data for Gender Equality (WEDGE) project developing metrics for gender empowerment in developing nations and worked with the India Human Development Survey (2015-2021).

She participates in the Civic Engagement Across the Curriculum Project (CEAC) integrating community involvement into coursework and the Feller Fellows program linking curriculum to career outcomes.
