معرفی
Amy M. Ahasic, MD, MPH is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. She has been a member of the Pulmonary and Critical Care faculty since 2010, specializing in adult critical care including acute lung injury and sepsis, as well as outpatient care focusing on occupational lung disease, bronchiectasis, and general pulmonary disease. She is board-certified in occupational and environmental medicine, pulmonary medicine, and critical care medicine.
Education:
- BA from Yale University (1996), major in History of Science and Medicine
- MD from Yale School of Medicine (2000)
- Internship and Residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital (2003), served as Chief Resident
- MPH from Harvard School of Public Health (2005)
- Fellowship in Occupational and Environmental Medicine at Harvard School of Public Health (2006)
- Fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in the Harvard Combined Fellowship Program (2010)
Dr. Ahasic's clinical research centers on obesity and metabolic pathways in critical illness, with particular focus on acute lung injury (ALI)/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and sepsis. She investigates the relationship between obesity and ARDS, examining phenotypic and genotypic markers relevant to metabolic pathways including insulin-like growth factor (IGF) and adipokines. She also studies the aging ICU population, focusing on functional and cognitive outcomes after critical illness, particularly the cognitive-metabolic connection linking obesity and insulin resistance to delirium in older adults. Her work bridges pulmonary medicine, critical care, endocrinology, and geriatrics, addressing significant clinical challenges in critically ill patients.
Dr. Ahasic's publication record demonstrates consistent focus on critical care medicine, particularly examining metabolic pathways in acute lung injury and sepsis. Her work bridges pulmonary medicine, endocrinology, and geriatrics, with a particular emphasis on obesity-related pathways in critical illness. Her research has evolved from basic biomarker investigations to more complex analyses of genetic factors and metabolic pathways, while recent publications also address broader issues including women in medicine and healthcare disparities.
Scientific Awards and Funding:
- Research awards from the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine
- Research awards from the Massachusetts Thoracic Society
- Research awards from the Respiratory Disease Young Investigators' Forum
- Current funding from the American Heart Association to study metabolic and obesity-related pathways in acute lung injury
- Current funding from the Yale Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center to study the relationship between obesity, adipose dysfunction, and delirium in the ICU
Dr. Ahasic precepts Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine fellows in their continuity clinic. She serves as Principal Investigator on the Yale MICU Biorepository project, which has enrolled approximately 700 critically ill patients to collect clinical data and biologic specimens. Her research program demonstrates strong mentorship and collaboration, with frequent co-authorship with colleagues including Margaret Pisani, MD, MPH. Her funding portfolio reflects the significance of her work at the intersection of critical care, metabolism, and aging.
Dr. Ahasic is affiliated with the ICU Research Working Group and leads the Yale MICU Biorepository project. Her laboratory work focuses on the Whisk Cup Streamline initiative, contributing to the broader research ecosystem at Yale School of Medicine that integrates clinical care with translational research in critical illness.
