Amy Laws is a Lecturer in Law at the University of Sunderland. She holds a first-class LLB (2015) and an LLM in Criminal Law and Procedure (Distinction) from Sunderland, and defended her PhD in January 2024, focusing on counter-terrorism approaches and de-radicalisation strategies in England/Wales, Canada, and New Zealand. She has taught at the University since 2016, currently leading modules such as Practical Contract Law, Public Law, and Counter-Terrorism Law. Her research interests include constitutional law, human rights, and the UK’s counter-terrorism response.
Teaching responsibilities include supervision of LLB and LLM dissertations in counter-terrorism law, constitutional law, and human rights. She actively integrates her research into pedagogy, emphasizing contemporary issues like radicalisation and Prevent programmes.
