Amy Koerber is a Professor of Communication Studies and Associate Dean for Administration & Finance at Texas Tech University’s College of Media and Communication. She holds a PhD in Rhetoric and Scientific Communication (University of Minnesota, 2002), MA in English (University of South Dakota, 1996), and BS in Linguistics (Georgetown University, 1990).
Her research focuses on health and science communication, particularly examining marginalized knowledge producers and ethical issues in scholarly publishing. Key areas include predatory publishing, feminist rhetorical criticism, medical rhetoric, and gender/diversity/inclusion issues. She has authored/co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed articles and multiple books, including *The Predatory Paradox* (2023), *From Hysteria to Hormones* (2018), and *Breast or Bottle* (2013).
Dr. Koerber’s work has been recognized with awards such as the TTU President’s Faculty Book Award and the NCTE Award for Best Book in Scientific Communication. She has served as PI on an NSF grant studying predatory publishing and has advised doctoral students like Erin Trauth, who won the 2016 Best Dissertation Award in Scientific and Technical Communication.
Her recent articles address topics like open science during the pandemic, global #MeToo media framing, and leadership communication in STEM. She teaches courses in health communication and serves as a leader in curriculum development, including Texas Tech’s STEM Leadership Communication graduate certificate program.
