Amy June Rowley is a Professor and Coordinator of the American Sign Language (ASL) Program in the Department of Modern Languages & Literatures at California State University, East Bay. She previously served as Coordinator of the ASL Program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for nine years. Her expertise includes Second Language Education in Urban Settings, with a focus on ASL program structures and empowering practices.
Dr. Rowley holds a Ph.D. in Second Language Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where her dissertation examined ASL Advanced Studies Programs. She is also certified at the Master level by the American Sign Language Teachers Association (ASLTA) and serves as Director of ASLTA's Evaluation and Certification Program.
Her research explores systemic hierarchies in postsecondary ASL programs, intersections between Deaf communities and interpreting students, and issues of Audism and oppression in education. She has published on topics related to special education and cultural equity.
