Kristi Winter is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Linguistics Department at the University of Washington. She has been a full-time faculty member since 2010 and holds a BA in ASL Studies and an MA in Linguistics from Gallaudet University, alongside a Professional Certificate from the American Sign Language Teachers Association (ASLTA). Her research focuses on sociolinguistics of Deaf communities, ASL morphology, and second language acquisition in both deaf and hearing learners.

Ms. Winter has over 20 years of teaching experience in ASL at various institutions, including Gallaudet University. She currently serves as President of the Washington State chapter of ASLTA and conducts workshops on ASL linguistics and pedagogy. Her work includes studies on numerical incorporation in Japanese Sign Language, regional variations in Black ASL, and phonology acquisition in first-language ASL learners.
Active in ASL education advocacy, she develops teaching strategies for ASL and collaborates on community-based linguistic research projects.
