Her research explores how Victorian cultural production navigates tensions between imperial and anticolonial nationalism, contributing to postcolonial theory and studies of modernity. Key themes include the emergence of 'terrorism' as a concept, critiques of empire, and transatlantic political movements. Recent projects examine internationalist anticolonialism in nineteenth-century Ireland, including lectures at Princeton University’s Fund for Irish Studies and the Notre Dame Irish Studies Seminar.
Amy Martin’s publications analyze Gothic literature, nationalist newspapers, and visual culture to trace the evolution of colonial resistance narratives. She teaches courses on Victorian literature, gender and class in the novel, Irish Gothic literature, and modern Irish literature, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to literary and historical contexts.
