Dr. Amy Brunell is a Professor of Social Psychology at the Ohio State University at Mansfield. Her research focuses on the role of narcissism in social contexts, including leadership, relationships, decision-making, and health behaviors. She co-edited the Handbook of Trait Narcissism and serves on editorial boards for Assessment, Personality and Individual Differences, and Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin. She holds Fellowships from the Midwestern Psychological Association, Society for Experimental Social Psychology, and Society for Personality and Social Psychology.
Education: PhD in Social Psychology (University of Georgia, 2007), MA in Psychology (The College of William & Mary, 2002), BA in Psychology (Muhlenberg College, 2000).
Research interests include narcissism's impact on leadership emergence, interpersonal relationships, risk-taking, and fairness perceptions. Her work explores narcissism across domains such as romantic partnerships, volunteerism, and pandemic behaviors. Recent publications address coping strategies in narcissistic relationships and narcissism's role in essential worker resilience during the pandemic.
She has received over 15 teaching and scholarship awards since 2002, including the 2023 Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching. Her grants include funding for psi chi advisory work and scholarly activities. She collaborates with undergraduate researchers through Psych 4998.
Labs/Teams: Active collaboration with students and co-authors on narcissism-focused projects, including work with Matthew T. Buelow and Jonathan D. Foster.
