Amy Brener is an Assistant Professor of Art at Hamilton College, where she teaches Introduction to Drawing and Introduction to Sculpture. Her artistic practice explores the fusion of everyday objects and personal imagery into sculptures that challenge hierarchies between sacred and mundane materials.
Research Interests: Brener employs inventive mold-making and casting techniques to create hybrid sculptures that resemble otherworldly monuments, reliquaries, and garments. Her work interrogates material preservation, ritual use of utilitarian objects, and post-digital craftsmanship.
Scientific Awards:
- Emerging Artist Fellowship, Socrates Sculpture Park, 2018
- The Shifting Foundation Project Grant, 2018
- Canada Council Visual Arts Project Grant, 2017
- NYFA Fellowship in Crafts/Sculpture, 2015
Recent Artistic Output: Brener’s recent works (2023-2018) focus on material experimentation with silicone, urethane resin, and found objects, creating forms that bridge geological and bodily metaphors, digital aesthetics, and surrealist influences.
Exhibitions & Publications: Her sculptures have been exhibited at MoMA PS1, Socrates Sculpture Park, Nasher Sculpture Center, and featured in The New York Times, Art in America, and Artnet News.
