Amrita Shodhan

Dr. Amrita Shodhan serves as Senior Teaching Fellow (equivalent to Senior Lecturer) in History at SOAS University of London's School of History, Religions and Philosophies. Her research examines socio-legal transformations in colonial and post-colonial South Asia.

Research focuses on:

• Gender and caste dynamics in colonial legal systems
• Community identity formation under British governance
• Partition histories of India/Pakistan
• 19th century western Indian social transformations

Her publications analyze how legal frameworks shaped community identities during British rule, particularly through landmark cases like the Aga Khan Case that defined religious communities.
