Amrit Singh serves as Professor of Practice and founding director of NYU Law's Rule of Law Lab, where she studies and deploys legal tools to defend democracy and the rule of law worldwide. With expertise spanning human rights law, strategic litigation, and international advocacy, she has built a distinguished career addressing critical rule of law challenges across multiple continents.
Her research interests focus on human rights law, rule of law protection, and democratic resilience, with particular emphasis on developing legal strategies to counter authoritarian practices and protect democratic institutions. Singh has pioneered innovative approaches to human rights documentation, accountability mechanisms for government wrongdoing, and legal tools for defending democratic norms in times of crisis.
Her scholarly work demonstrates consistent engagement with rule of law erosion, government accountability, and human rights protection across diverse contexts including counter-terrorism policies, emergency powers, and democratic backsliding.
