Amjed Rasheed is a Visiting Lecturer at the Institute of Political Science (IPS) at the University of Tübingen and holds a part-time lecturing position at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), delivering courses on the Kurdish issue for the Diplomatic Academy at the UK’s Foreign Commonwealth Office. He previously served as a post-doctoral research fellow and completed his Ph.D. in 2017 at Durham University’s School of Government and International Affairs (SGIA). He also holds an MSc in International Politics from Glasgow University and an MA in International Peace Studies from the University for Peace in Costa Rica. Amjed is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK) and a board member of the Open Think Tank (OTT) in Iraqi-Kurdistan.
His research focuses on the International Relations of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), authoritarianism dynamics in MENA states, political systems in the region, and violent extremism. He currently leads projects on China’s influence in MENA and the drivers of violent extremism, collaborating with Uppsala University and the Berghof Foundation. As an associate editor of Shura Councils in the Persian Gulf Monograph Series and al-Sabah Insights, he contributes to academic publishing in MENA studies.
Amjed’s work bridges theoretical frameworks in political science with empirical studies on Iraq, Syria, and Kurdistan. His part-time role at SOAS underscores his engagement with applied diplomatic education. He has been affiliated with the Schlumberger Team at Tübingen, emphasizing interdisciplinary research and policy-oriented analysis. Awards include his FHEA designation, reflecting his commitment to higher education quality.
In advising and grants, he actively engages in mentoring within the Joint Master's Program (CMEPS) and prospective PhD initiatives. His projects often involve cross-institutional partnerships, highlighting collaborative research trends in contemporary political studies.
