Amit Singh is a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow in the Department of Sociology at the University of Manchester. His research focuses on how working-class pupils in London, Rochdale, and Morecambe navigate educational and career transitions influenced by race, class, gender, and place. He leads the Connected Sociologies Curriculum Project, delivering a 25-week 'Race, Class & Society' program for South London sixth formers and organizing annual summer schools. His work addresses social inequalities through ethnographic and cultural analyses, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to education and social justice.
Research interests include race/class intersections, conviviality, habitus, and education policy. Recent publications explore youth career pathways in deindustrial regions, neoliberalism's impact on self-perception, and multicultural entanglements. He engages public sociology through initiatives bridging academic research with community education.
Advising and grants include leading the Leverhulme-funded three-year project on educational transitions. Collaborative efforts with schools and policy institutions highlight his commitment to actionable sociological research.
