Amit Seru is the Steven and Roberta Denning Professor of Finance at Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB), Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution and Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR). He holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Michigan (2007), an MBA from the University of Delhi (1998), and a B.E. in Electronics & Communication from the University of Delhi (1996).
His research focuses on financial intermediation, banking regulation, firm resource allocation, and performance evaluation. Notable contributions include analyses of shadow banking systems, mortgage market dynamics, and technological innovation in finance. Seru has served as Co-Director of the Fama-Miller Center at the University of Chicago and held leadership roles in academic programs such as the Directors’ Consortium and The Emerging CFO Program.
He has been recognized with awards including the MBA Distinguished Teaching Award (2018), NSF Grant (2016), and multiple paper prizes from leading journals. Seru’s work bridges academic research with policy impact, advising institutions like the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), Bank for International Settlements (BIS), and the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
