Amit K. Verma

Dr. Amit K. Verma is Professor in the Department of Oncology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, with joint appointments in Medicine and Developmental & Molecular Biology. He serves as Director of the Division of Hemato-Oncology and Interim Chair of Oncology.

Dr. Verma earned his M.B.B.S. at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (1995) and completed postdoctoral training in hematology oncology and stem cell transplantation at Northwestern University (2003).

His research investigates molecular pathways in hematologic malignancies with three primary foci: 1) Targeting TGF-beta/smad and MAP kinase pathways in myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), 2) Identifying therapeutic targets against leukemic stem cells, and 3) Developing epigenomic analysis methods for tumor profiling. This work has led to multiple clinical trials for MDS treatments.

Dr. Verma maintains an active clinical practice focused on MDS patients through a specialized clinic offering novel therapeutic trials.
