Amie Adelman is a Professor of Studio Art at the University of North Texas. Her expertise spans basketry, hand embroidery, machine embroidery, block printing, and a variety of mixed media techniques. She holds an M.F.A. from the University of Kansas and a B.F.A. from Arizona State University. Her research has been supported by UNT travel grants to study textiles in Ghana, Uganda, South Africa, Guatemala, Norway, Scotland, England, and Iceland.
Adelman’s artwork has been featured in books like Dyeing and Screen-Printing on Textiles and Fiberarts Design Book Six, as well as journals such as American Craft and Surface Design Journal. She has exhibited nationally and internationally, with installations at venues including the Alden B. Dow Museum, the Atlanta International Airport, and the Dallas Contemporary. Her work often explores tension, linear motion, and textile innovation through large-scale installations using thread, fishing line, and canvas.
Adelman has participated in residencies at Lakkos Artist Residency (Crete), Gullkistan Residency (Iceland), and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the National Basketry Organization and was a 2023 artist-in-residence at the Greater Denton Arts Council.
