Amey Victoria Adkins-Jones is an Assistant Professor of Theology and African and African Diaspora Studies at Boston College. Her work critically engages Mariology, Black feminist/womanist thought, and theological anthropology. She holds a PhD from Duke University and has research interests including iconography, human trafficking, the prison industrial complex, and technology's impact on visualizing violence.
Education: PhD in Theology (Duke University), MDiv (Duke Divinity School), BA (University of Virginia).
Research Highlights:
- Monograph-in-progress Immaculate Misconceptions examines the global sex trade through Black Madonna iconography.
- Second project See No Evil explores technology's role in visualizing Black death and protest.
Teaching: Courses include Introduction to Christian Theology, Black Church Studies, and Womanist Theologies.
Community Engagement: Birth worker, Baptist minister, and UX design background. Engages in ritual healing traditions and public theology initiatives.
