Amber Peterman

Amber Peterman is a Research Professor in the Department of Public Policy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is affiliated with the Transfer Project at the Carolina Population Center, co-leads the Cash Transfer and Intimate Partner Violence Research Collaborative, and serves as a Non-Resident Fellow at the Center for Global Development. Her research focuses on the intersection of gender and development, emphasizing social protection, gender-based violence, and adolescent health. She holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy from UNC Chapel Hill and a BA in Economics from UC San Diego.

Her work explores how economic and behavioral interventions mitigate risks such as violence against women and children, with a focus on large-scale data collection across multiple countries. Notable contributions include pioneering studies on cash transfer programs' impacts on intimate partner violence and methodological innovations in measuring gender-based violence.
