Amber Darr

Amber Darr is a Lecturer in Competition Law at the University of Manchester School of Law and a Senior Research Fellow at University College London’s Centre for Law, Economics and Society. She holds a PhD in Law from UCL (2018), focusing on the diffusion of competition laws in India and Pakistan, later expanding her research to all South Asian nations. Her work bridges competition law with human rights, sustainability, and economic inequality. She is the author of Competition Laws in South Asia (Cambridge University Press, 2023), analyzing policy diffusion and institutional design. Prior to academia, she practiced corporate law in Pakistan and served as Head of the Legal Department at the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (2005–2007). She is also a Barrister of Lincoln’s Inn and Advocate of Pakistan’s Supreme Court.

Her research interests include transnational competition policy, institutional effectiveness of competition authorities, and intersections between law and socio-economic justice. She frequently contributes expert commentary on legal issues in Pakistan and South Asia through op-eds in DAWN. She has been awarded the CLS Early Career Research Award (2021), Coventry Law School Course Team of the Year (2021), and WuW Best Author Award (2021).

Dr. Darr actively participates in global academic networks, delivering invited talks on sustainability, competition law in food supply chains, and legal transplants. She co-organized events like the ‘Sustainability in Food Supply Chains’ conference (2024) and contributes to editorial boards and peer reviews. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals on reducing inequality and promoting sustainable development.
