Ambar Basu serves as Visiting Professor and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Bolton, where he is Clinical Lead for the MSc Physician Associate Programme. Clinically, he works as Consultant Physician in General Medicine, Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolic Medicine at Bolton Hospital NHS Trust and Bolton Diabetes Centre, while also directing Diabetes and Endocrinology training for specialist registrars at Health Education Northwest.
His research concentrates on:
- Diabetes complications, particularly obesity and renal disease in diabetic patients
- Calcium and parathyroid disorders
- Community-based diabetes management strategies
Professional recognition includes:
- Fellowship from Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh)
- Fellowship from Royal College of Physicians (London)
Dr Basu actively shapes medical education as Training Programme Director for Diabetes/Endocrinology specialists and leads the Physician Associate MSc programme. He collaborates with Diabetes UK on community champion initiatives in Bolton to address diabetes challenges through public engagement.
