Dr. Young's research explores communication challenges in SCD care, including gene therapy consent processes, patient visibility in emergency departments, and media narratives. She is a co-investigator on the CDC-funded Sickle Cell Disease Surveillance Project (SCDC) and SCDCGENE, a St. Jude Children's Research Hospital collaboration developing gene therapy consent materials.
Her recent publications highlight community-based participatory research, SCD epidemiology, and health equity. She employs qualitative methods to analyze stakeholder perspectives in SCD advocacy, emergency care, and genetic interventions.
Dr. Young collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and community organizations to address systemic barriers in SCD management. Her work bridges rhetorical theory with public health practice, emphasizing patient-centered communication strategies.
