Dr Amanda (Xiao) Ju is a Lecturer in Contemporary Art at the Department of History of Art, University College London. Her research and teaching examine contemporary art from East Asia and diasporic communities, focusing on intersections between global socialism, post-socialism, gender politics, and cultural identity.
- Education: Ph.D. in Visual and Cultural Studies, University of Rochester (2023)
- Prior Affiliations: Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Free University Berlin; Pre-doctoral Fellow, Metropolitan Museum of Art
Her research explores:
- Global histories of socialist visual culture
- Transcultural exchanges between China, Japan, Central Asia, and Europe
- Practices of feminist historiography
- Historical and gender transitions in Chinese art
Recent scholarship includes analyses of Walasse Ting's diasporic aesthetics, post-Mao selfhood representations, and socialist art pedagogy comparisons between Eastern Europe and China. Publications span catalogue essays, peer-reviewed reviews, and interviews addressing contemporary visual culture.
