Amanda Phillips is an Associate Professor of Islamic Art and Material Culture at the Department of Art History, University of Virginia. She serves as Director of Graduate Studies and is affiliated with the Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Languages and Cultures. Her research spans Islamic art history, Ottoman material culture, and global textile studies, with a focus on everyday objects and women's contributions.

Her work bridges social/economic history with technical studies, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to Ottoman textiles and crafts. Awards include support from the Fulbright Commission, NEH, Max Planck Foundation, and Doris Duke Foundation. She advises graduate students in Islamic material culture and teaches first-year undergraduates in the College Fellows Program.
