Luca Mola is Professor of History at the University of Warwick, specializing in Renaissance economic history, technology transfer, and material culture. He holds a Ph.D. in History from Johns Hopkins University.
His research examines the silk industry's development in Renaissance Italy, analyzing how immigrant artisans established production networks across Bologna, Venice, and Lucca. Mola investigates technological innovation during the Renaissance, including the emergence of patent systems and state policies supporting industrial development.
Recent work explores global trade networks connecting Italy with Asia and the Ottoman Empire, with particular attention to luxury goods exchange and diplomatic gift-giving practices. His scholarship illuminates how Renaissance courts stimulated innovation and controlled knowledge circulation in textile manufacturing and other industries.
