Professor Amanda Perry-Kessaris is a Professor of Law and LLM Pathway Director for International Commercial Law at the University of Kent's Kent Law School. She holds qualifications in law (LLB, LLM, PhD), economics, and graphic design. Her research focuses on intersections of law with design and economic life, including projects on hate crime activism, econo-legal futures, and sociolegal research methodologies. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (FAcSS), Design Research Society (FDRS), and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).
She teaches modules on Legal Design, Law and Economy, and International Economic Law. Her professional experience includes roles at SOAS, Birkbeck, Queen Mary, and other institutions. Key research contributions include Doing Sociolegal Research in Design Mode (2021) and collaborative projects on the Economic Sociology of Law. Awards include Leverhulme and British Academy fellowships.
Her research explores how design-based methods enhance sociolegal inquiry, such as the Pop-Up Museum of Legal Objects and sociolegal model-making projects. She has supervised over a dozen PhD students on themes like foreign investment, environmental justice, and anti-corruption. Her work integrates visual and experimental approaches to legal education and activism.
