Amanda Mcgarry is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Chester, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. She teaches on the Counselling Skills undergraduate program and the Master's in Clinical Counselling, specializing in person-centred therapeutic approaches that emphasize social justice and power dynamics.

Research focuses on gender, feminism, and suicide within the person-centred framework, with recent work exploring therapeutic power dynamics and participatory research methods. Teaching responsibilities include module leadership for Ethics in the Helping Relationship, Embedded Counselling Skills in Context, and Developing Multicultural Competence.
