Amanda Martin is a Clinical Professor of Law and Supervising Attorney at the First Amendment Clinic at Duke University School of Law. She specializes in communications law, representing traditional and social media entities on issues including libel, privacy, intellectual property, and internet-based speech concerns. She also serves as general counsel to the North Carolina Press Association, advising journalists and news organizations on legal matters.
Her work spans 25+ years of counseling media professionals on avoiding litigation, accessing public records, and resisting subpoenas. She expanded her practice to address modern social media challenges and has contributed extensively to legal scholarship through co-authoring the North Carolina section of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press Open Government Guide and co-editing the North Carolina Media Law Handbook.
