Amanda L. Elyse is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Lawyering Skills at Seattle University School of Law, where she teaches in the Legal Writing Program and offers specialized courses such as Lawyers, Media, and Social Change and Animal Law. Her teaching philosophy centers on student-centered learning, community building, and fostering passionate advocacy for social justice.

Her recent publications reflect a strong interdisciplinary trend combining legal scholarship with ethics, advocacy, and education reform. These works contribute to conversations on animal welfare oversight, gender-inclusive legal writing, reproductive rights, and movement lawyering.
Professor Elyse has presented at national legal writing conferences and law schools on topics including movement lawyering, student connection, and inclusive language. She has extensive experience providing legal support to grassroots movements, political prisoners, and environmental defenders across the U.S. and Europe.
She has advised and trained over a hundred grassroots activists and frontline communities, integrating real-world advocacy into her academic work. Her professional background includes work with a national animal protection nonprofit focused on enforcing animal welfare laws in research laboratories.
