Amanda Dorsey

Amanda Dorsey is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Services Administration at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), affiliated with the School of Health Professions. She holds roles including Associate Scientist in the College of Arts and Sciences and Assistant Director of the Health Informatics Program. Her career spans over 20 years in healthcare IT roles such as project management for HIPAA compliance and EHR implementations.

Education:

• Master of Health Related - Biomathematics and Bioinformatics (UAB, 1999)
• Bachelor of Humanities - English Literature (University of Alabama, 1994)
• Graduate Certificate in AI in Medicine (UAB, 2024-2025)

Research & Expertise: Focuses on health information technology, clinical informatics, and AI applications in medicine. She developed UAB's online Master of Science in Health Informatics program with specialized tracks and created a clinical informatics graduate certificate for working clinicians.

Awards: Recognized as a Fellow of HIMSS for contributions to healthcare IT.

Leadership: Served as Program Director for the Health Informatics program (2011–2016), Director of Operations for Graduate Programs, and currently leads the Center for Health Informatics for Patient Safety & Quality. Active in Alabama HIMSS Chapter as Board Member and Past President.
