Amanda Barrett serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology at Augusta University's Medical College of Georgia, specializing in Anatomic Pathology. Her dual focus bridges molecular pathology research with medical education, teaching core courses including Pathology for Medical Instruction and Foundations of Medicine.
Education
- MD in Medicine, Medical College of Georgia (2013)
- BS in Biology, Duke University (2009)
- GA Composite Medical Board Certification (2019)
Her research investigates molecular mechanisms in cancer pathogenesis, particularly liver injury pathways, pancreatic cancer progression, and esophageal carcinoma variants. Recent work demonstrates expertise in oxidative stress responses, tumor microenvironment interactions, and onco-immune signatures across gastrointestinal and neurological pathologies.
Publications from 2021-2022 reveal a cohesive research trajectory emphasizing translational pathology, with significant contributions to understanding molecular drivers in hepatobiliary, pancreatic, and colorectal cancers alongside innovative neurosurgical case studies. This work consistently integrates basic science with clinical applications.
Awards & Recognition
- Exemplary Teaching Award (2020, 2021, 2022)
- Augusta University Woman Who Inspires (2021)
Dr. Barrett actively mentors through the Pathology Interest Group while serving on critical committees including the Clinical Competency Committee for Pathology Residency and Pre-Clerkship Curriculum Committee. Her leadership in the Interdisciplinary Cancer Tumor Board facilitates cross-departmental collaboration for cancer care optimization.
As Faculty Sponsor for the Pathology Interest Group and member of the Pre-Clerkship Directors Group, she shapes medical curriculum development while advancing cancer research through tumor board participation and molecular pathology investigations.
