Amanda Balltrip serves as an Adjunct Music Instructor at the University of the Cumberlands and the Kentucky Center’s Governor’s School for the Arts. A Harlan, Kentucky native currently based in Somerset, KY, she maintains an active performance career while leading community arts initiatives through Watershed Arts Alliance, where she produces innovative opera productions to broaden audience engagement.
Her academic background includes:
- Bachelor's degree in Music Performance from the University of Kentucky
- Master's degree in Music Performance from the University of Kentucky
Specializing in vocal performance and opera, Balltrip focuses on making classical music accessible through educational outreach and contemporary productions. Her work bridges traditional opera training with community-focused storytelling, exemplified by her production No Shirt, No Shoes, No Opera which introduces new audiences to opera through humor and personal narratives. She actively mentors emerging artists through both institutional and private channels.
Her artistic recognition includes:
- Kentucky District winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (2008)
- Three-time Encouragement Award recipient in Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (2006, 2007, 2015)
- Alltech Opera Scholarship Competition second place graduate prize
Balltrip advises students through her private studio at McNeil Music Center in Somerset while developing recording projects including Angela Rice's Thy Will Be Done on Roven Records and new Emily Dickinson-inspired works. Her leadership as President of Watershed Arts Alliance drives community-focused artistic programming that brings professional-caliber productions to regional audiences.
Current artistic engagements include Ein deutsches Requiem with Lexington Singers and Pirates of Penzance with Flashback Theater Co., demonstrating her commitment to both classical repertoire and accessible musical theater.
