Amanda Almon is a full Professor at Rowan University, holding a primary appointment in the Biomedical Art and Visualization BFA Major within the Ric Edelman College of Communication & Creative Arts. She also serves as an instructor in the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering's VR Lab and teaches at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU). Her academic credentials include a B.F.A. from Rochester Institute of Technology and an M.F.A. from the University of Michigan, complemented by certification as a Certified Medical Illustrator (CMI) accredited by the Association of Medical Illustrators and CAAHEP.
Her research focuses on pharmaceutical/cell biology visualization, medical device animations, patient education materials, and VR/AR simulations for healthcare training. Notable projects include a mobile eHealth application collaboration with Partners Healthcare/Harvard Medical School and a $2.4M U.S. Army grant for AR/VR simulations to improve military turret gunner survivability. She also led a VR hip replacement surgery training simulation funded by Rowan's Camden Health Grant.
Teaching responsibilities span digital biomedical illustration, 3D modeling, animation, and game design. Her creative work has appeared on Discovery Channel, Oprah Winfrey with Dr. Oz, and in McGraw-Hill textbooks. Professional collaborations include Visible Productions, AgencyRX, and Lemming Labs.
