Alyssa Choat is a Lecturer in Fashion and Textiles at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Her research focuses on material agency, new materialist theory, and the relational dynamics between the body and materials in fashion and performance. She explores interdisciplinary creative practices, including wearable art, sculpture, and performance works.
Her research has been presented internationally at venues such as the Critical Costume Conference (Aalto University, Helsinki) and the IFFTI Conference (Florence). Key projects include Material Interactions and BodyBody Experiments, which investigate non-human agency through performance and material interactions.
Choat has exhibited works in national and international contexts, blending art, design, and scientific inquiry. Her funded research project, New Materialism, Affect, Performance, further underscores her commitment to exploring the interplay between materiality and human experience.
She is available to supervise Master’s or PhD students in design-related disciplines and has contributed to journals like IDEA Journal and Studies in Costume and Performance.
