معرفی
Prof Alyson Tobin is an Honorary Professor of Biology at the School of Biology, University of St Andrews. Her research focuses on plant biology, particularly nitrogen assimilation in barley, mitochondrial dynamics, and plastid metabolism. She employs advanced techniques such as proteomics, metabolomics, and transgenic plant analysis. Her work addresses environmental stress responses in plants, including Antarctic flora exposed to UV-B radiation and drought.
Research Interests: Prof Tobin investigates nitrogen metabolism in cereal crops, mitochondrial form and function in plants, and the metabolic diversity of plastids across leaf cell types. She also studies plant adaptation to environmental stresses, such as cold acclimation and DNA damage repair mechanisms.
Her technical expertise includes subcellular fractionation, confocal microscopy, and the use of fluorescent markers to track organelle behavior in living cells. These methods have enabled discoveries in mitochondrial morphology control and plastid metabolic potential.
No scientific awards were explicitly mentioned in the profile. Prof Tobin collaborates on interdisciplinary projects, including global change studies in Antarctica and metabolic pathway analysis in crops. Her lab’s contributions span plant physiology, genetics, and ecological responses to environmental challenges.
