معرفی
Alyson Kim Tobin is an Honorary Professor of Biology at the University of St Andrews. She leads research on nitrogen assimilation in barley, mitochondrial dynamics in plants, and environmental stress responses. Her work combines proteomics, metabolomics, and genetic approaches to understand crop improvement and plant resilience.
- Research Focus: Nitrogen metabolism, mitochondrial biology, plastid function, and plant responses to UV-B radiation and drought.
- Techniques: Transgenic plant production, confocal microscopy, proteomics, and metabolomics analysis.
Her studies include isolating plastids from leaf epidermal cells and investigating DNA repair mechanisms in Antarctic plants. She collaborates with commercial growers to address environmental stress impacts on crops.
- Awards: Education Representative (Society of Experimental Biology, 2005), Local Representative (Institute of Biology, 1998).
Tobin serves as BBSRC School Liaison Officer, organizing educational programs at the St Andrews Botanic Garden. Her future work focuses on organelle proteomics and field-based drought studies.
