Alyshea Cummins is a Contract Instructor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Carleton University, affiliated with the College of Humanities. She holds a B.A. from the University of Windsor, an M.A. from Wilfrid Laurier University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Ottawa. Her research focuses on contemporary Islam, sociology/anthropology of religion, migration, identity, and social change.
In addition to teaching, she serves as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Ottawa for projects on nonreligious immigrant identities and religious transmission across generations. She also contributes to the Canadian Society for the Study of Religion (CSSR) book prize committee.
Cummins' work explores themes such as religious literacy, immigrant communities, and generational religious practices. Her publications analyze Canadian Ismaili Muslims, youth identity, and methodological approaches to studying religion.
