Alvin Kuo Jing Teo

Alvin Kuo Jing Teo is a Research Fellow in Tuberculosis Research at the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre, Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney. His work focuses on epidemiological and public health interventions to combat infectious diseases, particularly tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, with a regional emphasis on Southeast Asia. Dr. Teo has conducted extensive research in Cambodia, Malaysia, and Singapore, addressing issues such as TB case detection, HIV antiretroviral therapy adherence, and the impact of public health policies on marginalized populations.

Dr. Teo holds a BPharm(Hons), Special Certificate in Implementation Science (SpecCertImpSc), MPH, and PhD. His interdisciplinary approach integrates quantitative and qualitative methods, including meta-analyses, mixed-methods studies, and epidemiological modeling.

Research interests include tuberculosis epidemiology, implementation science for public health programs, HIV/AIDS prevention strategies, and the intersection of infectious diseases with aging populations. He has also explored the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on healthcare systems, sex work markets, and vaccine efficacy in Malaysia and Singapore.

His recent work highlights community-based interventions for TB and HIV, emphasizing the importance of engaging affected populations to improve diagnosis and treatment adherence. He contributed to a 2022 NIH-funded grant advancing global clinical therapeutics for HIV/AIDS and other infections, demonstrating his commitment to translational research.

Labs/teams: Dr. Teo collaborates with the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre and international groups in Cambodia, including studies on TB case-finding, HIV treatment delivery, and healthcare provider perspectives.
