Alp Sener is an Associate Professor of Surgery and Clinician Scientist at Western University, affiliated with the Matthew Mailing Center for Translational Transplant Studies and Lawson Health Research Institute. He holds an MD from the University of Calgary (Canada), a PhD in Immunobiology, and completed residency training at Western University, followed by a postdoc at the University of Maryland.
His research focuses on organ preservation strategies, particularly renal and pancreatic transplantation, targeting ischemia-reperfusion injury and transplant immunobiology. Key techniques include temperature modulation and gasotransmitter therapies. He leads a laboratory developing cutting-edge preservation methods to enhance graft survival and function.
Recent publications emphasize hydrogen sulfide modulation for kidney preservation, sodium thiosulfate's role in transplantation, and AI-driven emergency triaging. His work spans clinical trials, translational research, and global health collaborations, addressing challenges in transplant medicine and critical care.
