Allyson Stokes is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Memorial University of Newfoundland, with an adjunct appointment in Knowledge Integration at the University of Waterloo. Her research focuses on work, culture, inequality, and education, particularly examining how precarious labor in artistic fields reflects broader 21st-century labor market trends.

Research Interests: Dr. Stokes investigates the intersection of work and social inequalities in cultural industries such as fashion, film, and music. Her work highlights the spread of temporary/project-based employment and reputation-driven careers across sectors, with a specific focus on gender and sexuality disparities. She also explores how classroom-integrated technologies impact educational outcomes and maps the evolution of Canadian sociology.
Collaborative Projects: She collaborates with researchers at the University of Waterloo on labor-education connections and with Dr. Kim de Laat (University of Toronto) on teaching sociology of culture in Canada. Her work has influenced industry practices in fashion (Glamour Magazine, CFDA).
