Allyson McGaughey

Allyson McGaughey is an Assistant Professor in the Gerald May Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at the University of New Mexico (UNM), and affiliated with the Center for Water and the Environment. Her research focuses on developing mechanistic understanding of material properties and performance in separations processes for water reuse and environmental remediation. She holds a PhD (2021) and MS (2017) in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Southern California, and a BS (2014) in Chemical Engineering from the University of Washington.

Research interests include membrane processes, resource recovery, and sustainable water treatment. Her work integrates materials synthesis, characterization, and process analysis. Awards include the 2019 AMTA Fellowship, USC CEE Best Dissertation, and Viterbi Teaching Excellence Award. She leads the McGaughey research group, which emphasizes circular water economy solutions. Teaching focuses on physical-chemical water treatment and environmental engineering.

Research Group: The McGaughey Group at UNM develops materials and processes for water sustainability. Collaborates with the Center for Water and the Environment and engages in outreach activities like lab tours and open-source educational materials.
