Allyson M Lunny

Allyson M Lunny is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Science at York University, affiliated with the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies. Her research focuses on intersections of law, sexuality, and justice, particularly in hate crime and queer legal narratives. She holds a Ph.D. in Criminology from the University of Toronto, alongside advanced degrees in English Literature and Semiotics.

Her academic leadership includes an appointment as the Endowed Chair in Criminology & Criminal Justice at St. Thomas University (2021). Research specialties include hate speech symbolism, socio-legal victimhood narratives, and critical psychoanalytic approaches to law.

Publications span hate crime jurisprudence, queer theory, and historical legal analyses. Current projects address symbolic expressions of hate beyond language and evolving legal frameworks around marginalized communities. She is accepting new graduate students.
