Allison de Fren is a Professor in Media Arts & Culture at Occidental College. With a B.A. from Grinnell College, an M.P.S. from New York University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Southern California, she has been appointed since 2010. Her research-practice explores intersections of sexuality/gender, film/media, and science/technology, often connecting contemporary representations to historical audiovisual practices.

Her documentaries and audiovisual essays have screened globally, and her writing appears in journals and anthologies. She has taught remixed/culture jamming, videographic criticism, and multi-disciplinary media research, mentoring students in non-traditional forms. She previously served as visiting faculty in NYU Shanghai's Interactive Media Arts Program and as a Mellon postdoctoral fellow at Connecticut College's Ammerman Center for Arts & Technology.
