Allison McCulloch is a Professor of Political Science at Brandon University, Canada. Her primary research focuses on power-sharing arrangements in ethnically divided societies, emphasizing their role in fostering democracy, security, and stability in post-conflict regions. She holds a B.A. (Hons) from Laurentian University and M.A./Ph.D. degrees from Queen’s University.
- Current Projects:
- Principal investigator on an Open Research Area 7/SSHRC grant analyzing citizen inclusion in power-sharing settlements.
- Leading a SSHRC grant examining refugee policy in consociational governments in Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq.
- Co-investigator on a Swiss Network-funded project assessing power-sharing durability in Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq.
Her research bridges comparative politics and international relations, with a focus on consociationalism, ethnic conflict resolution, and gender inclusion in power-sharing frameworks. She has authored/co-edited multiple books on power-sharing theory and practice, including Power-Sharing in the Global South (2024) and Power-Sharing Pacts and the Women, Peace and Security Agenda (2022).
Teaching areas include Comparative Politics, Peace and Conflict Transformation, and Political Analysis. Notable courses include Authoritarian Politics and Gender, War and Peace.
Recipient of the Elizabeth Meehan Prize (2018) and Brandon University’s Excellence in Teaching Award, she also serves as Editor-in-Chief of Nationalism and Ethnic Politics.
