Allison McCarthy is an Instructor of Law and Director of the Refugee Clinic at Drake University Law School. She holds a JD from the University of Iowa College of Law and a BA from the University of Iowa (with distinction). Her expertise spans Immigration Law and Criminal Defense, with a focus on human rights perspectives in legal practice.
Professional experience includes roles as Managing Attorney at McCarthy Law, PC; Associate Attorney at Vondra & Mallot, PLC; Assistant Public Advocate at Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy; and Judicial Law Clerk at the Iowa Supreme Court.
Her scholarship addresses immigration policy implementation, Supreme Court case studies, and judicial reform. She contributes to Spanish-language media (e.g., Heraldo Hispano) and academic journals like Transnational Law & Contemporary Problems.
McCarthy serves on the executive committee of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (Iowa/Nebraska Chapter). Her work emphasizes legal advocacy for marginalized communities and intersects with interdisciplinary human rights frameworks.
