Professor Allison Green is a Professor in Immunology at the Hull York Medical School (HYMS), University of York. She holds the title of Wellcome Senior Research Fellow in Basic Biomedical Science and has held leadership roles such as Academic Theme Lead for Applied Life Sciences (2013-2016), Deputy Lead Phase I, and currently chairs the Mitigation and Exceptional Circumstances Committee (MECC). Her research focuses on immune mechanisms underlying Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), particularly the role of thymic B cells in autoimmunity.
Education: BSc Immunology from Glasgow University (1990), PhD in Virology, Immunology & Vaccination from St Andrews University (1995), followed by postdoctoral research at Yale School of Medicine (1997-2001). She has secured prestigious awards including the GJ Thorbecke Award (2002) and Wellcome Trust Fellowships.
Research Interests: Mechanisms of T1D, thymic B cell ontogeny/function, Complement pathway in autoimmunity, and interdisciplinary modeling of the thymic microenvironment. Current projects include identifying therapeutic targets for T1D via thymic B cell pathways.
Teaching: Contributes to MBBS and Biomedical Sciences programs, recognized with awards including the Vice Chancellor's Excellence in Teaching Award (2019). Supervises MScRes and PhD students across disciplines.
Collaborations: Works with institutions like University of Exeter and Newcastle University. Engages in public outreach for Diabetes UK and JDRF.
