Allison Carter

Dr. Allison (Allie) Carter is a Senior Lecturer and Group Leader of the Sexual Health and Reproductive Equity (SHARE) Research Group at the Kirby Institute, University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney). She also serves as an Associate of the Australian Human Rights Institute and holds an Adjunct Professor appointment at Simon Fraser University in Canada.

Research Focus: Carter's program strengthens responses to gender, social justice, and sexual/reproductive health equity through critical social theories and community-based methods. Her work integrates big data, surveys, cohort studies, qualitative approaches, and arts-based knowledge translation, with collaborations in Australia and Canada focusing on women living with HIV, young people with disability, migrant communities, and the broader population.

Key Research Areas: Sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR), HIV/STIs, HPV/cervical cancer, sexual behavior, gender differences in sexuality, youth sex education, gendered violence, and reproductive coercion. She has secured over $17.7M in grants and authored 70+ peer-reviewed publications.
