Allan Sunderland is a Lecturer in Paramedicine at the University of Plymouth, affiliated with the School of Health Professions within the Faculty of Health. He transitioned to higher education in 2018 after roles in the NHS, including Practice Educator and Training Centre Manager. He holds an MA in Medical Education and is pursuing a doctoral degree in Education. His research focuses on Specific Learning Difficulties & Health (SpLD&H), neurodiversity, and assessment strategies to enhance educational inclusion. He actively contributes to the Faculty of Health's EDI Committee and explores simulation’s role in healthcare education.

Research Interests: Allan investigates barriers to learning in healthcare education, particularly neurodiversity and SpLD&H, aiming to create inclusive learning environments. He emphasizes biopsychosocial influences on learners and systems, advocating for 'assessment for learning' approaches. His work aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, promoting equity and quality education.
Teaching & Supervision: Supervises two postgraduate researchers in advanced practice. Teaches Professional Values, Interdisciplinary Education, Pedagogy, Leadership, and Quality Improvement in healthcare practice.
Labs/Teams: Engaged with EDI initiatives and simulation-based education projects within the School of Health Professions.
